As my name was called to be crowned for Mrs. Virginia 2011, a state of shock came over me followed by a wave of gratefulness. I am humbled and honored to be given the opportunity to represent my wonderful state in the Mrs. America 2011 pageant! As a child, I competed in pageants, but I had never taken the opportunity to compete as a teenager or an adult. When I competed for and won the title for Little Miss Iosco County, I sang the following words: "Someday, I'll be Miss America, and that will be the happiest day of my life." When I sang those words as a child, I did not realize that I would have the awesome opportunity to vie for the crowning of Mrs. America, so this occasion is a "dream come true." I remember how much I admired and emulated beauty queens, and I am thrilled to be in a position in which I will be the subject of emulation. It is such an enormous privilege and responsibility, but it is one that I do not take flippantly. The path to the position for this privilege would not have been a possibility without my wonderfully supportive husband, Mark. We reside in Lynchburg, VA with our dog, Scout. |
