I am Michelle Aurelius and so honored to be your Mrs. New Mexico 2011! Your “Mr. New Mexico” is my amazing husband, Dunham who deserves his own title, fireworks, celebration, and acknowledgement for his never-ending support. Our 16-month-old daughter Lillian’s laughter, smiles, and curiosity light up our lives. As a Sculptor, my husband balances out the super science geek in me.

I am a Forensic Pathologist (yes – it is just as exciting as the TV show CSI!) and try to give a voice to my patients. Monthly, I provide public service radio announcements on health topics that are aired throughout the state of New Mexico and sometimes across the nation. I am currently the leader of a research team for bioterrorism and infectious disease surveillance in New Mexico so that we will never be caught unprepared again.

Since I am a survivor with heart disease, my family has been active with the American Heart association and campaigns to fight against the number one killer of women: heart disease. To learn more about heart disease and prevention visit www.americanheart.org.
